Patients with missing teeth are often concerned with how their teeth look, how their teeth will function after a dental implant, and how their new tooth will feel. When you choose dental implants with our office, you’ll walk out with new teeth that look and feel like the real thing.
Here’s what you need to know about dental implants.
Dental implants allow us to replace missing teeth with an artificial root made of titanium metal. The metal root attaches to the jawbone, and the replacement tooth attaches to the root (titanium implant). You may recognize this procedure as “screwed in teeth” because that’s essentially what’s happening when you get a dental implant.
Dental implants require surgery, but the results are amazing. Your missing teeth will be completely replaced with teeth that look natural and feel great.
Although it may sound intimidating, the whole procedure is painless since a local anesthetic will be applied to the area of the procedure. If you receive dental implants, you may experience mild discomfort as your gums heal around the implant area.
It can take a few months to fully heal, but as it does, your gums will form around the implant, and the metal root will feel and work the same as a natural root.
Depending on your specific circumstances, we may have you come in for one or two stages of surgery.
Compared to dentures and bridges, dental implants are more comfortable and durable. Dentures are weaker than dental implants, and they are prone to slipping out and moving around. And while dentures generally last between 5-10 years, dental implants can last for decades with proper care.
We also offer implant restoration and full mouth dental implants—so no matter what your dental needs are, you can be sure that your family at Walker Dental Group can help.
